Additional Notes: This listing is only included as for many years, it was 'assumed' to have been an E. Shay design, or at least influenced by Ephraim's own home built locomotive.
This first 1878 Lima built locomotive, apparently had a pair of horizontal cylinders on opposite sides of the locomotive, powering an upper gear that meshed with a lower gear, likely on the trucks. The name Fontaine was only associated with sn-1 many years later and only with this gear arrangment.
In January1880, Lima rebuilt Ephraim Shay's own locomotive, moving the pistons to the right side, beginning the classic Shay style Locomotive.
