There is only one original LIMA mark left on any of the Alishan Ry shays and it has no number. All of their shays have been re-built, changing much of the original Lima product. Most were renumbered for various reasons without regard to Lima Shop Numbers over the years.

All of the 28 ton Alishan Shays were converted by the Alishan shops prior to 1921 to have the driveline pinion gears moved from the right side of the axel as Lima built it to the left side of the axel. The reason given was that these engines always faced downhill and backed (pushed) their train up the grade. Alishan 28t Shays were the only Shays to make this conversion.
